Dr. Nishi Patel, M.D., is a forward-thinking cardiologist recognized for his expertise in advanced heart failure, cardiac critical care, and cardiovascular imaging. Practicing at WellSpan York Hospital in York, Pennsylvania, Dr. Patel delivers leading-edge cardiac care to patients with complex conditions. His leadership as National Director of Cardiac Imaging for Access Physicians/SOC Telemedicine brings much-needed subspecialty services to hospitals in rural and underserved communities nationwide. Dr. Patel’s academic journey began at Drexel University, where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2009. He earned his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine in 2013, then continued his postgraduate training at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. He further specialized through fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease and Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. His multiple board certifications—including Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Cardiology, Echocardiography, Cardiac CT, and Nuclear Cardiology—underscore his comprehensive and multidisciplinary expertise. At WellSpan York Hospital, Dr. Patel is at the forefront of advanced heart failure management, overseeing care for critically ill patients who require sophisticated support like ECMO, Impella, and LVAD therapies. His efforts have allowed more patients to access state-of-the-art treatments within their community, reducing travel burdens and keeping families together during challenging times. He is also developing new clinical programs, such as a clinic for survivors of cardiogenic shock. He is a strong advocate of preventive care through remote patient monitoring and early intervention strategies. As National Medical Director of Cardiac Imaging at Access Telecare, Dr. Patel has led efforts to expand cardiac imaging capabilities in rural hospitals, ensuring expert interpretation of echocardiography and cardiac CT scans is available wherever it’s needed. His commitment to leveraging telemedicine has helped democratize access to specialized cardiac diagnostics and care for patients who might otherwise face significant barriers to care. Dr. Patel is deeply involved in academic research, with interests spanning mechanical circulatory support, molecular mechanisms of cardiac disease, and innovations in precision medicine. He is a frequent presenter at national conferences and has received honors, including the Zoll Foundation Research Grant, for his work in sudden cardiac arrest and genomics. As Editor-in-Chief for Cardiology and Cardiac CT at StatPearls and a reviewer for esteemed journals, Dr. Patel plays an active role in shaping cardiovascular education and scholarship. Dedicated to mentorship and service, Nishi Patel teaches medical students, residents, and fellows and volunteers with organizations such as the American Heart Association. Outside of his medical career, he is passionate about martial arts and exploring the outdoors, reflecting his belief in holistic well-being.
